Brand New Single - Younga Barla Mapa "Young Men" is available now!
PRESS RELEASE
Today, Akaye glam-rockers Mulga Bore Hard Rock release their electrifying debut single, “Young Men” (Younga Barla Mapa) out now via Community Music. Hot off their packed-out showcases at SXSW Sydney and Bigsound, today’s track is equally raw, exhilarating and energising.
Nestled in a tight-knit community with less than 40 people, and a school of roughly 10 students, Mulga Bore is where lead singer Alvin Manfong and his family have forged their musical identity. Sung in Anmatjerre language, “Young Men” is a heartfelt tribute to their upbringing, beautifully conveying the bonds of their community and inviting listeners on a vibrant journey through the stunning landscapes of Central Australia.
“Young Men” bursts with infectious energy, drawing inspiration from the bold sounds of the ‘80s glam rock era - with bombastic drums and silky guitar solos, the band delivers a fresh twist on classic rock, imbued with their distinct outback flair. Accompanying the single is an enlivening music video that embodies the high-octane spirit of the track. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of an outback highway, the band, dressed in their signature KISS-inspired outfits cruise in a powder blue 1964 Cadillac Convertible, before putting their fun-loving nature and sense of camaraderie on show at a carnival - juxtaposing the two worlds and cultures that Mulga Bore Hard Rock live in.
Mulga Bore Hard Rock’s singer Alvin shares on the single: “Growing up in Mulga Bore, music was always part of our life. Uncles, Aunties, Mums, Dads and the kids always playing country and gospel music around the campfire. Some families would play rock’n’roll like Status Quo, Guns and Roses, AC/DC and KISS - I loved that the most.
Later on, at Mulga Bore School, I started a school band with my brother and cousins. We called ourselves Mulga Bore Hard Rock and we loved to play hard rock’n’roll. At night, I would dream of playing on the big stages around the world. I could hear the Big Train passing in the distance and I wondered where I could end up if I jumped on board. I started to practice the songs from YouTube at night while everyone slept across the room.”
One day, I spoke to my Uncle David about his life on the road as a musician and he told me it was a beautiful story but it is always hard leaving home and away from family. You have to balance family, culture, blak lore and white law, all at once.”
Mulga Bore Hard Rock bring a uniquely authentic voice to the Australian rock scene, seamlessly blending their cultural heritage with a dynamic sound that transcends their small desert community. Comprised of Thunder Child (Alvin Manfong - vocals/guitar), Desert Demon (Kirklen Bird - bass/vocals), Desert Dingo (Aiden Manfong - drums), Queen of Hearts (Niara Tilmouth - vocals/tambourine), Star Boy (Tryell Bird - guitar/vocals) and Black Diamond (Talvin Bird - bass); a group of siblings and cousins aged 14 to 19. Defying any expectations around their age, the six-piece commanded the stage when they were invited to support rock legends KISS at their final Australian tour date—an extraordinary achievement for a band with no music released at the time. Their performance made such an impact that KISS personally praised them, marking a pivotal milestone early on their journey. Recently, the band captured the hearts of Australia’s music industry at Bigsound, where they were named one of Double J's “finest acts” from the event, and at SXSW Sydney, receiving widespread acclaim from outlets including The AU Review, NME, Backseat Mafia and The Underground Stage.
Brace yourself for the jubilant energy of Mulga Bore Hard Rock on their thrilling debut single “Young Men”.
